OAK ISLAND, N.C. — A Florida soldier was killed in a skydiving accident in North Carolina Sunday.

WTVD reported Sgt. 1st Class Justin Goff, 29, was stationed at Fort Bragg but was from Florida.

Oak Island police told WECT Goff’s parachute was working but high winds were the reason he died.

Officers called it a “freak accident” and said Goff didn’t hit anything on his way down, according to WECT.

The accident happened while Goff was on a recreational skydiving trip, WTVD said.
