Florida Democrats had previously asked for that amount of money, and it seems like they may be getting their way.

President Donald Trump says his administration will fight for $200 million in Florida Everglades restoration funding.

In a tweet Monday evening, the president urged Congress to help the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers complete "the world's largest intergovernmental watershed restoration project."

The president called Everglades restoration "good for Florida" and for the environment.

Earlier this year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recommended more than $625 million in state money be set aside for Everglades restoration and the protection of water resources. On Monday, the governor thanked the president for his "continued commitment to Florida."

Florida Sen. Rick Scott is also applauding the president's tweeting.

“Everglades restoration is critically important to the State of Florida and enjoys broad bipartisan support in Congress," Sen. Scott said in part. "I applaud the Administration’s commitment to protecting Florida’s natural treasures for generations to come.”

Trump isn't just pushing for Florida environmental funding. Up north, the commander in chief says he is also advocating for $300 million to be set aside for a Great Lakes restoration initiative.
