Tampa ranks in the top 20 best cities for an active lifestyle, new list finds

You better work, right?

TAMPA, Fla. — It's no secret that the sun is (almost) always shining in Tampa and the heat is enough to make you continuously sweat --whether you like it or not.

That's why it should come as no surprise Tampa has ranked in the top 20 best cities for an active lifestyle in Wallethub's new list. With no snow or excessive, prolonged cold weather, Tampa Bay is the prime area for a consistent workout regime.

Instead of just looking at the weather, however, Wallethub compared 100 of the most populated cities across budget and participation and sports and outdoors. The list used 38 metrics and key indicators of an active lifestyle.

While St. Petersburg ranked at 67 for best cities for an active lifestyle, it actually ranked in the top five lowest monthly fitness-club fees.

The list not only ranked the club fees but the cost of sporting apparel along with the shares of physically inactive adults, commuters, little leagues and other sports.

It also ranked the number of intramural courts such as basketball hoops and volleyball nets, along with other sports facilities like fitness centers and running trails.

So, where does Tampa rank?

Number 19, with an active lifestyle score of 46.87 as a weighted average out of 100, 21 points for budget and participation, and 19 for sports and outdoors ranking.
