Police are often called upon to recover stolen property. But a stolen alligator has got to be a first.
On Wednesday, a Sarasota resident called 911 to report a gator had wandered into his front yard. Sgt. Bruce King, who used to work for Florida Fish & Wildlife, and has experience capturing gators, was nearby and responded to the call.
The gator, which had been recently captured, had a taped snout, a tag from a trapper and had been inside a trailer. However, the trailer was broken into and the gator was stolen until King responded.
After the gator was loaded into King's vehicle with the assistance of Officer Justin Toler, he was delivered to state wildlife officials.
