WALTON COUNTY, Fla.— A few cups of coffee and a smoke helped Walton County deputies track down a burglary suspect.

Investigators said DNA left on a cigarette butt and two Styrofoam cups led them to James Dexter Jackson after a break-in at Regional Utilities.

Law enforcement said Jackson entered the building through a back door and made a pot of coffee. Deputies found a Styrofoam cup near the coffee pot and another one near an open window.

The cups and a cigarette were collected as evidence and sent to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement lab. Officials said the DNA found on the cups and cigarette was Jackson’s.

Deputies said they responded to the property and found several things scattered around the area. There were also missing fishing rods and a wakeboard and other stolen items. The stolen items were worth almost $3,375, deputies said.
