Extensive damage across the Gulf Coast from Hurricane Sally

Bridges are down, roads are blocked, and power is out for thousands across the Gulf Coast.

GULF SHORES, Ala — Catastrophic damage can be seen along Alabama's Gulf Coast after Hurricane Sally swept through the region.

Residents are urged not to go around barricades and to stay off the roads as much as possible to allow first responders and recovery crews to get where they are needed. There is still significant blockage and damage on roads.

Tens of thousands remain without power in Mobile and Baldwin Counties, and according to Congressman Bradley Byrne, they may be without power for a while due to the damage to trees and power lines.

Governor Ivey expressed her gratitude to power crews who have come from all over the Southeast to assist. 

Gulf State Park and other recreational areas sustained damage from Hurricane Sally, but crews are working to get these repaired and reopened as soon as possible.

There was significant damage to boats and the charter boat business.

Relief in the form of water, ice, and food are on the way to the area.

The 3 Mile Bridge connecting Pensacola to Gulf Breeze was heavily damaged and could be unusable for months or longer.
