FDOT postpones Howard Frankland Bridge closure

Necessary equipment didn't show up in time.

The closure of one of the Tampa Bay area's busiest bridges has been rescheduled.

Weather permitting, all lanes of the Howard Frankland Bridge are now closing for nearby construction work from 8 p.m. on Jan. 16 until noon on Jan. 17.

The closure of one of Tampa Bay's business bridges is being delayed.

The Howard Frankland Bridge had been scheduled to temporarily shut down in both directions over the weekend, so construction crews could remove the 4th Street North Bridge, which crosses I-275. The work is part of the Gateway Expressway project.

However,  the Florida Department of Transportation now says that work is being postponed to a "later date." The reason? FDOT says "needed bridge equipment" won't show up in time for the work to begin on Jan. 9.

"As soon as we know the new date for the closure, we will communicate that immediately," FDOT wrote in a statement.
