PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A driver who caused an overnight wrong-way crash on southbound I-275 has been arrested for DUI, Florida Highway Patrol troopers say.
Troopers say Jessica Murphy, 37, was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-275 near milepost 26.5 south of Gandy Boulevard around 3:17 a.m. Friday morning when she hit another vehicle traveling in the inside lane.
Both vehicles ended in the opposite shoulders of the road following the crash, and Murphy's vehicle burst into flames.
The other driver had serious injuries following the crash, and Murphy had minor injuries. Both were sent to be treated at nearby hospitals, and their current conditions are unknown.
All lanes of southbound I-275 were shut down until 4:45 a.m.
Murphy was arrested and faces charges for DUI with a serious injury, reckless driving with a serious injury and driving in the wrong direction, according to troopers.
