TAMPA, Fla. — As Florida begins to reopen, the rest of the country is paying attention and travel to Tampa Bay is picking up.
Tampa Internal Airport said it has seen an increase in passengers over the last month. Still, it's nothing like it's used to seeing.
On a typical day right now, TPA is seeing about 7,000 passengers coming through the airport. That's a pretty big improvement from mid-March when the airport was seeing around 2,000 passengers per day.
But the 7,000 travelers is still only 10 percent of the 70,000 to 80,000 TPA saw any other year at this time.
TPA is expecting an uptick in flights for Memorial Day weekend, which is approaching. If you're planning on traveling, the airport says not to expect it to be as easy as you may think.
The airport says they're seeing lines that are a little longer, and some people were cutting it close and almost missing their flights. So, they want people to get there early, about two hours before departure.
So, what safety measures are in place?
Employees have to wear masks, Plexiglas shields have been put up and there are hand sanitizing stations available.
There are also lots of reminders to stay socially distant.
