Cold weather shelters opening in Tampa Bay area as temperatures drop

Overnight, the region will experience a cooldown, and the wind chill won't help.

TAMPA, Fla. — A frigid forecast is causing local leaders to plan on opening cold weather shelters in the Tampa Bay region.

Meteorologists are expecting some temps in the area to drop to or below 40 degrees Monday night when factoring in the wind chill.

Hillsborough County announced Monday that it would be activating its cold weather shelters program to serve people who are homeless or live in homes that lack enough heat. There are also limited motel options for families who need a room for the night.

We will update the below list as any other counties open shelters.
