TAMPA, Fla — Hurricane Laura hit parts of Texas' and Lousiana's Gulf Coast late Wednesday night and Thursday morning, but there are already several ways people can contribute to the recovery efforts.
Feeding Tampa Bay will gather food and supplies to take to those who need it along the Texas and Louisiana coast.
Building up pantries is a hard part of the relief effort, so MREs or "meals ready to eat" are sent first. Feeding Tampa Bay is also sending skilled team members to support sister food banks in the areas affected. They're not sure how many just yet.

Trained Red Cross disaster workers are on their way to help communities as well. They'll be assigned shelter teams on the ground.
When flights start up again, local volunteer Michael Hill will head up to support relief efforts. He grabbed his supplies and paperwork on Wednesday.
If you want to volunteer this hurricane season with the Red Cross, you are encouraged to get up to speed on CDC guidance.
