Riders just need to enter the promo code "IANRELIEF" into the Uber app.

TAMPA, Fla. — If you don't have a ride to an evacuation shelter ahead of Hurricane Ian, don't worry — Uber has got you covered.

The rideshare app announced on Tuesday that it is offering free round-trip rides to and from state-approved shelters throughout the Tampa Bay area

The company will cover up to $30 each way. Here's how to activate the deal.

  1. Open the Uber app on your phone
  2. Tap "Account" on the bottom right corner
  3. Tap "Wallet"
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap "+ Add promo code"
  5. Enter code "IANRELIEF"
  6. Schedule a ride to any state-approved Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco or Manatee County evacuation shelter

The promo code must be entered before the ride is requested in order for it to apply. Driver-partner earnings will not be affected, according to the company.

Several Tampa Bay area counties, including Sarasota and Hillsborough, will also be offering free county transportation to hurricane shelters. You can check out the details on our county-by-county shelter list.

As Hurricane Ian quickly approaches the Tampa Bay area, local authorities are stressing the importance of following evacuation orders to keep you and your family safe.
