Invest 92L has 50-percent chance of developing into a tropical depression

If the system becomes a tropical storm, it will be called Cristobal.

TAMPA, Fla. — Invest 92L in the Atlantic has some developments Friday morning.

The National Hurricane Center says there is now a 50-percent chance it will develop into a subtropical depression over the next 24 hours.

After that, it will move into unfavorable environmental conditions for strengthening. If the system becomes a subtropical or tropical storm, it will be called Cristobal.

The official start to the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season is June 1.

Several projections of the upcoming season, including Colorado State University, Penn State University, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and AccuWeather are forecasting an above-average season--largely because of warm sea surface temperatures and the lack of El Niño.
