ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The tropics couldn't stay quiet for long: There's a new disturbance under the watchful eye of hurricane forecasters.

Invest 95-L is hanging out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about 900 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands, meandering northward as a mess of stormy weather for the fishes.

National Hurricane Center meteorologists give the system a medium, 40-percent chance of development through the next two days and a higher 70-percent chance thereafter. It's possible a tropical or subtropical storm or depression could form by Friday or Saturday.

Then what? After a devastating hurricanes Florence and Michael over the span of a couple months, there is a bit of good news: Any potential tropical system is not forecast to come anywhere close to the U.S.

The GFS weather model has the system veering close to Bermuda, but it stays out to sea. The European model shows a similar outcome.

10Weather's Bobby Deskins says this side of the globe is going through a pattern of frequent cold fronts, and it's looking likely that trend will continue into next week with a cold front sweeping this storm far, far away.
