Tropical Depression 21 forms over the eastern Atlantic

NHC says Tropical Depression 21 could see slight strengthening today and tonight, and it could briefly become a tropical storm during that time.

TAMPA, Fla — It's getting crowded out there in the tropics.

Right after Tropical Storm Teddy strengthened in the Atlantic early Monday morning, Tropical Depression 21 formed, as well!

The National Hurricane Center says the new depression in the far eastern Atlantic is expected to be short-lived and it could briefly become a tropical storm during that time before weakening occurs on Tuesday. On Monday morning it was located about 330 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

Earlier Monday morning Teddy reached tropical storm strength over the Atlantic.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) updated its 2020 hurricane season forecast earlier this month, indicating one of the most active seasonal forecasts that NOAA has produced in its 22-year history of hurricane outlooks.

The updated forecast calls for 19-25 named storms, 7-11 hurricanes and 3-6 major hurricanes. This includes the 18 storms and six hurricanes we’ve already seen.
