Family, friends recall hit-and-run victim in Tampa

Family, friends recall victim of hit-and-run driver during vigil in Tampa.
Bill McIntire

"I love you, Dad!"

Choked by emotion, Billy McIntire said goodbye to his father.

He was with his family and dozens of people from the Tampa neighborhood where his father lived and died.

Early Sunday morning, a hit-and-run driver struck 60-year-old Bill McIntire as he crossed East 40th Street at Crawford, and left him for dead.

One by one, members of the group light candles in his memory. Bill's youngest son Brad cannot believe the heartless way his father died.

"I hope no one ever has to deal with something like this. My dad will be remembered in a far better way than how he died," said Brad McIntire.

Neighborhood friends paid tribute to McIntire through tears and stifled words, but hope someone will have the strength to step forward and tell police who was driving the dark-colored, full-size SUV that hit McIntire about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

"My daughter will never see her grandfather again. I hope someone can help us find who did this," said Billy McIntire.

There is a $3,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. If you have information, investigators ask that you call Crimestoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
