ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.— If you plan on paying for parking at a Tampa Bay Rays game this year, forget about cash.

The team said Tuesday that gameday parking at Tropicana Field can be purchased only by credit card or Rays Card, and cash will no longer be accepted.

The team said the move is to increase efficiency, and the most secure mobile technology will be used to swipe credit cards for payment.

Parking is $15 on Opening Day on Thursday, and an early tailgate rate of $12 is available from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.

Gates will be open at 2:00 p.m., two hours prior to first pitch, on Opening Day.

Parking rates range from $15 to $20 for the 2018 season, depending on game date.

Parking passes can be purchased in advance at the Tropicana Field box office or online at raysbaseball.com/parking.

The Rays will continue to provide carpoolers access to free parking in team-controlled lots. All vehicles with four or more people park for free on all Sunday games in Lots 2, 6 and 7. For all other games, the first 100 cars with four or more will park for free up to one hour before game time.
