TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have picked up the fifth-year option on Jameis Winston's rookie contract.

The team option is worth about $20.92 million for 2019. The contract is guaranteed only against injury.

Winston, 24, was the first overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $25.35 million contract that included a fifth-year club option.

In three seasons with the Buccaneers, Winston has an 18-27 record as a starter.

The Bucs are likely to attempt to negotiate a long-term deal before the start of 2019, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The NFL still hasn't talked to Winston about a November accusation that he groped an Uber driver in 2016.
