This Florida grandfather's genealogy hobby helped catch the Golden State Killer
Curtis Rogers, 80, creator of GEDmatch, has no history in law enforcement. He said he's connected to the capture and arrest of the Golden State Killer "through a hobby." Police said they tracked him through his family tree by checking crime scene DNA against GEDmatch databases. Like other genealogy sites, users volunteer their genetic codes to plot family trees and discover new relatives and ancestors.
