These Tampa Bay gamers are playing for a purpose
The Gamers on the Edge 4TheKids pro-am tournament looked like any other e-sports event. Fans and players were decked out in team gear, and everyone was rooting for their favorites, but the purpose behind these tournaments make them unique.
“We work in two completely different worlds. We work in a world with 20 to 35 year-olds where it’s professional gaming and competitive gaming," explained co-founder Angel Miranda. "But with that, we raise money, awareness and we take care of, whatever we can possibly do to make kids at a hospital feel like kids while they are in there dealing with real-life issues.”
Gamers on the Edge was created in 2014. In their first year, GOTE raised $233. Now, they are averaging $17,000 a year for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. That's a large sum of money considering the founders had nothing when they started the organization.
