Trauma patient expresses gratitude to caregivers who helped her through the pain | 10News WTSP
When Wendy Akins got into her car on April 1, 2017, her life changed in a flash. As she was heading to a company picnic, on a two-lane highway, a driver from the opposite lane hit Wendy’s car head-on.
Rescuers used the Jaws of Life to cut her out of her car. Wendy was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital where she was treated for multiple injuries. Her road to recovery included five surgeries and months of physical therapy.
For the last two years, Wendy was able to depend on the caregivers from Tampa General Hospital to help her get back on her feet.
“When I came, they were here for me,” Wendy recalled. “I forged wonderful friendships, that I very much cherish.”
