Hillsborough County begins search for next school superintendent

Hillsborough County School Board members are scheduled to meet Thursday morning to discuss the search of the district’s next superintendent. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. ET Thursday. Current Superintendent Jeff Eakins will retire next year. Eakins said his last day would be June 30, 2020. He said the decision was made so he could spend more time with his family. Eakins has served as superintendent since July 1, 2015. He moved to the area from Ohio in 1987. Hillsborough County Schools is the eighth largest school district in the country.
