Manatee County school buses to have student ID scanners
The Manatee County District will begin testing new equipment aboard school buses at three of its schools during the 2019-2020 school year.
The plan calls for students to scan their identity cards when they enter or exit a school bus.
The pilot program is scheduled to start in August. A school spokesperson estimated it cost about $56,500.
Students do not have the IDs yet, but there is still time before classes start Aug. 12.
The district hopes its entire fleet of buses will have ID scanners by January 2020.
