Sarasota moves forward with plastic straw crackdown | 10News WTSP
The Sarasota City Commission last week voted unanimously to move forward with limiting single-use plastic straws.
The ordinance would prohibit the distribution and use of single-use straws and expanded polystyrene on city-owned land. It includes special event and sidewalk cafes.
However, the ordinance calls for single-use drinking straws to still be available for people who request them. A second reading is expected at the commission’s Aug. 19 meeting.
