10 for the Troops delivers smiles

Donating to the 10 for the Troops drive helps bring holiday cheer to military members.

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. — The non-profit Support the Troops has been shipping boxes around the world for twenty years now. “It’s a piece of home,” said Director Mark Van Trees.

The boxes go to military members deployed to remote locations or to ships that are often at sea for months at a time. “We don’t ship to Germany. We don’t ship to places that have huge exchanges that look like a Publix,” he explained.

That’s why 10 Tampa Bay is teaming up with Sonny’s BBQ to collect donations for Support the Troops. The five most requested items are: White Tube Socks, Toothpaste, Beef Jerky, Gum, Hard Candy.

You can drop off your donations at the 10 Tampa Bay studios (11450 Gandy Boulevard, St. Petersburg) or at your local Sonny’s BBQ restaurant. These are the participating locations: St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park, Largo, Palm Harbor, New Port Richey, Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills, Lakeland North, Lakeland South, Bradenton and Sarasota.

You can help with postage by donating on the Support the Troops website.
