Hillsborough superintendent, Tampa chief discuss efforts to keep students safe

Hillsborough County Schools superintendent Jeff Eakins and Tampa Police chief Brian Dugan spoke on Tuesday morning.

TAMPA, Fla. - Hillsborough County Schools superintendent Jeff Eakins and Tampa Police chief Brian Dugan discussed efforts Tuesday to keep students and teachers safe in the aftermath of last week's Parkland school shooting.

Eakins and Dugan reiterated for students and teachers, "if you see something, say something." Both urged parents to have conversations with their children about last week's shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The high school is set to reopen to students on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

The National Association of School Psychologists has a list of tips for parents and teachers when talking to children about violence.

Dugan said Tampa police made one arrest Friday at Middleton High School.
