Officials: 2-story cabin home destroyed, dog killed in Plant City fire

A car was also destroyed in the fire and some outbuildings, officials say.

PLANT CITY, Fla. — A two-story cabin was destroyed and a dog died in a Plant City fire on Sunday afternoon, authorities say.

Crews received a call at 1:36 p.m. from several people who said a cabin on the 3400 block of Keene Road was fully on fire, the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said in a news release.

Crews reportedly saw smoke coming from the area and called a working fire. Firefighters who arrived at the home saw the two-story cabin in flames.

HCFR says several large bales of hay and cars were next to the home.

"Crews attacked the fire from the outside, ultimately setting up firefighting operations from a ladder truck while engines and brush trucks worked together to suppress the fire in the hay bales and field," the news release reads. "Water supply was a challenge that was overcome using a combination of efforts."

A car was also destroyed in the fire and some outbuildings, officials say.

HCFR says one animal died but the people who were inside of the cabin were able to get out of the home safely.

Firefighters reportedly brought brush trucks to the scene due to the possibility of a brush fire starting.

Authorities have not yet said what caused the fire but are continuing to investigate it.

A dog was reportedly inside the home during the fire and died of its injuries.

Firefighters say they are still working to put out the fire. Crews are investigating the cause of the fire.
