Man found dead in retention pond near Gandy Boulevard in St. Pete identified

Detectives said 42-year-old Jamie Leon Hobdy had been reported missing by a family member.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg Police Department has identified the man found dead Monday in a retention pond off of Interstate 275 and Gandy Boulevard.

Detectives say a distinguishing tattoo was used to identify 42-year-old Jamie Leon Hobdy. His family had reported him missing.

"The manner and circumstances of his death are unknown and the investigation is ongoing," police wrote.

As part of the investigation into Hobdy's death, the on-ramp lanes from westbound Gandy Boulevard to northbound Interstate 75 will be shut down for several hours on Tuesday starting at 9:30 a.m.

Drivers can view alternative routes using the latest traffic map.
