Florida state lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are drafting legislation to limit access to semi-automatic rifles after police say 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz used an AR-15 when he opened fire on his teachers and classmates at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine's Day.
Proposals include raising the age to have a rifle to 21 and adding a 3-day waiting period to all rifle purchases because right now there isn't one, according to our reporting partners at the Tampa Bay Times.

According to the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action, no license or permit is required to purchase and own a rifle in Florida, or even a handgun. Firearms aren't required to be registered either.
Here are four things that are harder to obtain than a rifle in Florida:
Cold medicine
Consumers are prohibited, under Florida state law, from purchasing more than nine grams of common cold medications like Sudafed within a 30-day period. Customers must show photo ID when paying for the medication and every purchase is logged in a database.
Purchasing more than three packages at once is also illegal because a key ingredient in the medication—pseudoephedrine—is used to make methamphetamine.
Anti-diarrhea medication
If you can believe this, buying up large amounts of anti-diarrhea medication is likely to land you under FDA scrutiny.
The agency warned last month it was cracking down because, in large doses, drugs like Imodium works in the body the same way as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone, according to a 2016 study published in the Annals of Emergency Medicine.
Fertilizer
Have some yardwork to do? Need fertilizer? Anyone purchasing more than 25 pounds of fertilizer at a time is required to register with the Department of Homeland Security.
Ammonium nitrate is one of the most common fertilizers in the world, but mixed with the right ingredients it can be explosive.Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh used ammonium nitrate to carry out the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.
The federal government started regulating the sale and transfer of the chemical ammonium nitrate to that individuals could be screened against U.S. terror watch lists.
Marriage license
Those hoping to get hitched in Florida must must either attend a 4-hour premarital course or wait a mandatory three days before their marriage license is valid.
That's the same waiting period required to purchase a handgun in Florida, but not a rifle.
