FORT MYERS, Fla. — A United Airlines flight headed to Fort Myers made a beeline back to where it came from after the plane’s engine caught fire Monday night.

UA flight 1118 coming from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston to Southwest Florida International Airport, had to return to its native airport Monday after passengers onboard saw bursts of flames coming from one of the aircraft’s engines, news outlets said.

The fire was a result of an “engine issue,” United Airlines told Fox 4 News Southwest Florida in a statement.

Passengers noticed the fire 10 minutes into their flight that took off at 7:22 p.m. They began taking pictures to record what was happening.

“The door shuttered, and there was a bright light that came out on the left side of the plane,” a passenger told WINK-TV News.

Passengers were transferred to another flight where they eventually arrived in Fort Myers around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.

No one was hurt.
