Pick-up truck burns on southbound Howard Frankland Bridge

The fire was reported just after 7:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, in the far right shoulder lane of southbound Interstate 275 on the Tampa side.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Traffic slowed on the Howard Frankland Bridge as a pick-up truck burned to its wheels, sending smoke billowing over Old Tampa Bay.

The fire was reported just after 7:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, in the far right shoulder lane of southbound Interstate 275 on the Tampa side.

Two lanes of traffic were blocked as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

The driver was able to get away from the vehicle before the fire spread.
