Reports say the Vols are now pursuing Washington State coach Mike Leach to come to Knoxville, Tennessee. Dave Doeren has decided to stay at North Carolina State.
Tennessee's coaching search became national news after fan outrage against the university's attempt to hire Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano, who is accused of having ties to Jerry Sandusky's scandal at Penn State.
The Vols have pursued Schiano, Purdue coach Jeff Brohm and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden.
Media members speculate Tennessee could also hire former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, former LSU coach Les Miles, USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin or Florida Atlantic University coach Lane Kiffin.
