Norton reportedly has had a long career as an actor and he taught acting at the University of South Florida.
Norton's co-workers at Shorecrest Preparatory School, where he worked as the theatre manager for the past 8 years, posted a message on the school's website saying the Shorecrest community is in mourning. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jeff's family, friends and colleagues."
Diana Whittle is one of Norton's co-workers. She says he was well known for his hard work because the school puts on a large number of productions throughout the year. Whittle says the school has about 1,000 students from students as young as 3 to teens at the high school level.
Whittle says Norton was not only artistic and talented but he was kind and served as a mentor to many of the students. "I think it's important to know that Jeff was a really talented actor in his own right. He had a long career in the Tampa Bay area and was really talented and also didn't mind being behind the scenes."
The school is planning a memorial for Norton in August when summer break ends and students return for classes.
