Tampa, Florida – Clicking away on a computer in her Tampa home, Terri Garey is living a dream.
- Terri Garey, Tampa author:
- “I definitely get to work in my jammies.”
But unlike real dreams, her dream of becoming an author didn't happen overnight. An avid reader, Garey started on this literary journey years ago when she wondered if she too could spell magic.
- Terri Garey, Tampa author:
- “So many times I'd close a book, I'd be finished with and I thought… 'Boy, I wish I could do that.'”
But unlike most of us, Garey didn't just wonder. She sat down and started to type. Letters turned to words, words turned to sentences and finally there was a stack of paper that Garey hoped someone, somewhere would read.
- Terri Garey, Tampa author:
- “Yes, I have an entire folder full of rejections.”
But finally in October of 2005, she got “the call.” Harper Collins was interested in her book, Dead Girls Are Easy.
- Terri Garey,
- “There's a mystery, there's a romance, there's a comedy and it's also kind of scary.”
And now Garey gets a great feeling when she strolls down the aisle of Waldenbooks.
- Terri Garey, Tampa author:
- “Anyone who's ever wanted to be a writer, this is the moment, when you actually see your book on the shelf for the first time.”
More scary books are on the way and Garey will no doubt by typing for years to come.
