Crews investigating apartment fire that hospitalized 1, displaced 4 families in St. Pete

The fire reportedly broke out Thursday evening at an apartment building on Dartmouth Avenue North.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A fire at an apartment building Thursday night in St. Petersburg sent one person to the hospital and displaced four families, according to crews.

The fire broke out around 7:40 p.m., St. Petersburg Fire Rescue said. Fifteen units responded to the incident and firefighters were able to rescue one dog and two cats from the burning building.

The extent of the hospitalized person's injuries is unknown.

At this time, the Red Cross is helping the displaced families find a place to stay. Crews say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
