Florida couple, restaurant team up to surprise ER staff with lunch

Grant and Alison Krapf asked Gigglewaters for help making hospital employees feel loved during their heavy COVID-19 workload.

SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. — Some of the hardest working people around the globe right now are hospital employees. Nurses, doctors, and everyone else involved in treating patients are tasked with working hard and staying safe amid COVID-19 concerns.

A Safety Harbor family decided to try to ease the burden of long hours and high-stress for medical workers by catering a meal from one of their favorite restaurants.

Grant and Alison Krapf asked Gigglewaters to whip up meals for the staff at Mease Countryside on Thursday. The food was delivered to the emergency room workers as a small gesture of gratitude for the work those medical professionals are doing during uncertain times.

“It feels good to be able to give back even if it’s something small,” said Grant. “I don’t know how to go out and corral a bunch of face masks but I can still call up for some delivery.”

Gigglewaters, which is located on Main Street in Safety Harbor, has been open since May 2018. It serves “gourmet Americana” according to owner Rachel Fine.

She prepared the food order by the Krapfs and delivered it to Mease Countryside’s emergency room staff for a surprise pick-me-up lunch.

“To have an opportunity to go help people felt really good today. It was a nice change,” said Fine. “Honestly it’s been such a hard time these past weeks. It’s been a hard time for small business owners. It’s been a hard time for everybody. I think everyone’s been kind of down.”

The lunch was well received. Staffers smiled as the containers of burgers, fries and more were handed out.

“This felt like Giggles For Good 2.0,” said Fine, who calls her restaurant’s routine charity outreach Giggles For Good. “We help where we can help.”

It’s exactly what Grant envisioned when he felt the desire to give back.

“We probably don’t comprehend probably what they’re dealing with,” he said of hospital workers. “It feels good.”

If you’d like to partner with Gigglewaters to do something similar, they’d love to help connect your small business with other first responders. They are available at info@gigglewaters.com.
