National Gummy Worm Day: Celebrate with these recipes

Kendall and Java shared a few recipes you can make at home to celebrate the holiday.

July 15 is National Gummy Worm Day! It is said that gummy candies were invented by German entrepreneur Hans Riegel when he started Haribo in the early 1920s. Trolli is said to be the first to develop the gummy worm. Kendall and Java shared a few recipes you can make at home to celebrate the holiday.

Dirt Cups

Ingredients:

2 cups milk

1 package (4 oz) chocolate instant pudding

1 container whipped topping, thawed (8 oz)

1 package of Oreos crushed into crumbs

1 shareable package gummy worms

6-10 plastic cups or mason jars (8 oz)

Directions:

Pour milk into a mixing bowl and add the pudding mix.

Beat the mixture for about two minutes, and then let it sit for 5 minutes.

While pudding is setting, put Oreos in big Ziploc bag, then beat with a mallet to crush cookies to desired consistency. (Make sure you don't use the bumpy side!)

Once pudding has set, stir in the whipped topping.

Place 1 heaping spoon of crushed Oreos into the bottom of each cup. The add a heaping spoonful or two 2 of pudding mixture. Alternate layers, ended with cookies.

Lastly, push in gummy worms on top!

Refrigerate until you're ready to eat.
