Cereal for Summer inspires food donation

Outside of the 10News studios, officials from Tyson Foods presented Feeding Tampa Bay with a check representing more than $73,000 of chicken product. On Friday, a tractor-trailer truck will deliver the chicken to the Feeding Tampa Bay warehouse.

St. Petersburg, Fla. --The 10News Cereal for Summer drive is winding down, but on Wednesday it still inspired a big donation by Tyson Foods.

Outside of the 10News studios, officials from Tyson Foods presented Feeding Tampa Bay with a check representing more than $73,000 of chicken product. On Friday, a tractor-trailer truck will deliver the chicken to the Feeding Tampa Bay warehouse.

Kevin Ordway from Tyson Foods says the Cereal for Summer drive nudged the company into action. “Every year when that comes back out, we think about the children in the summer, that’s going to be rough for them because of food insecurity,” explained Ordway.

This is the second year Tyson Foods has donated to Feeding Tampa Bay during the Cereal for Summer drive.
