Publix announces new leadership team as grocery chain continues to expand

The incoming executive chairman, CEO and president have each been with the grocery store for more than 30 years.

LAKELAND, Fla. — As Publix plans to continue expanding beyond Florida, the fan-favorite grocery chain is undergoing some major changes.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2024, the Lakeland-based grocer is getting a new leadership team with CEO Todd Jones becoming executive chairman, President Kevin Murphy becoming CEO and Senior Vice President John Goff being promoted to president.

Publix's current Executive Chairman Ed Crenshaw will remain on the board of directors as chairman emeritus.

Jones, Murphy and Goff have each been with the grocery store for more than 30 years, truly rising through the ranks over their careers. They all started as front service clerks at different Publix locations before working their way up to the top of the leadership team.

“Todd has been an outstanding leader,” Ed Crenshaw said. “He has been committed to continuing Publix’s success and passionate about the development and promotion of our associates. We’re pleased he will continue to provide leadership to our company as Executive Chairman.”

“We are delighted to have leaders with the experience of Kevin and John who are ready to take the next steps in their careers,” Todd Jones added. “I am confident in their ability to lead our company into the future and to continue to make Publix a great place to shop for our customers and a great place to work for our associates.”

Publix also recently announced it's set to open several new locations in Kentucky in 2024. In addition to Kentucky and Florida, the grocer also operates in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
