Hillsborough County deputies have identified a suspect in a multi-county carjacking spree Wednesday.

They say Majar L. Jones, 43, of Orlando, is still at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Deputies say Jones carjacked a vehicle from Orange County Wednesday morning and abandoned it on Interstate 4 about an hour later. A fingerprint from that vehicle and the victim were able to help deputies identify Jones as the suspect.

After ditching the Cadillac deputies say he carjacked in Orlando, Jones then stole a green 2002 Ford F-150, with a Florida tag 9379T9 with a trailer attached, from a nearby construction site. The owner, Jorge Ballin, hopped into another truck and followed Jones to a nearby gas station at Marshall Drive and Thonotosassa Road, just off Interstate 4.

Ballin and Jones then had a confrontation at the gas station.

Ballin tried to drive away, and Jones fired three shots at his vehicle, deputies said.

"I pulled right in front of him and he pulled out a gun and started shooting," Ballin told reporters.

Surveillance video captured the exact moments the owner of the truck ran after the carjacking suspect:

He was not hurt.

Deputies say Jones drove away in Ballin's green Ford F-150 pick-up truck, then abandoned the trailer nearby.

"He's obviously shown that he has the intention of using that firearm and it's just by the grace of God that this guy wasn't shot," said Larry McKinnon with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Jones is a convicted felon since 1994.

He is 6-foot-7, 200 to 210 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green shirt and blue jeans.

He may still be driving the Ford F-150.

Anyone who knows his whereabouts should call 911 immediately.
