HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — The remains of a woman who went missing in 2021 were found.
Kelly Vazquez told her grandmother she was leaving for the day on May 24, 2021 and never returned.
In September, the Polk County Sheriff's Office found human remains. Earlier this week, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office got confirmation that those remains were Vazquez, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, her father said the confirmation gave the family closure.
"We all knew it was coming but once it came it felt like a blow in my gut," he wrote.
Deputies from both counties are investigating the cause of death.
"After years of committed investigation, we bring closure to a chapter of uncertainty that has haunted this community since 2021," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "Through collaborative efforts, we have located the remains of Kelly Vasquez, and we hope that in this discovery, we've given her family a measure of closure amidst their profound grief."
No other information was immediately provided.
