OKEECHOBEE, Fla. -- A 76-year-old woman was hit by a car driven by a man who snatched her purse, and the suspect has been arrested, Okeechobee police say.

On Thursday, the victim was sitting with a friend in a booth at a McDonald's on Highway 70 East when a man grabbed her purse, ran to the parking lot and got in a vehicle, police said. The victim followed and opened the driver's door to try to get her purse back.

The suspect put the car in reverse and knocked over the victim, police said. She was taken to Raulerson Hospital and later transferred to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce due to a concussion and possible bleeding on the brain. She has since been released from the hospital.

Okeechobee police posted video from the incident on their Facebook page and received information the suspect was Charles Stratton, 50. An alert was issued for Stratton, and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office reported he turned himself in at a substation in Deltona.

When Stratton was interviewed, police said he was wearing the same clothes seen in the video from McDonald's, minus a cap.

He was charged with robbery by sudden snatching, grand theft and aggravated battery with a vehicle.
