DUI driver found asleep at wheel next to child, police say

LARGO, Fla. — A 36-year-old woman who fell asleep behind the wheel at an intersection with a child next to her was arrested on several charges, police said.

Elizabeth Anne Toon was arrested Sunday, according to an affidavit.

Police said they were called after some reported a vehicle stopped at a stop sign at an intersection for several minutes. When they arrived, they said they found Toon and a 6-year-old boy in the vehicle. Toon was asleep behind the wheel.

After several attempts, police were able to wake Toon up. She then gave officers the name and birthdate of her sister, they said. 

She showed signs of impairment and had alcohol on her breath, and she refused to submit to testing.

Toon was taken into custody for DUI, and then gave her correct name, police said.

She was also charged with a false name to law enforcement, refusal to submit to testing, neglect of a child. Bail was set at $1,800.
