TAMPA, Fla. - Imagine climbing 41 floors in 60 pounds of bunker gear. That's what many brave first responders did on 9/11 in New York.

Saturday morning, Tampa Bay Firefighters helped honor those brave heroes.

A practice run was held at One Tampa City Center to give firefighters a feel for the stairwell and building ahead of the main event on May 19.

The stair climb honors New York firefighter Stephen Siller, who threw on his gear and raced through a tunnel to the Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001. He died trying to save others.

Proceeds from the climb will go to help building smart homes for seriously injured service members.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is also paying off the mortgage for the family of Gilchrist Deputy Sgt, Noel Ramirez and set up a scholarship program in the name of Deputy Taylor Lindsey. The two were killed this month.

There is still time to register for this event. Go to the Crowdrise website for details.
