BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — A 74-year-old man is dead after he crashed his golf cart into a tree and landed in a pond Saturday morning in Hernando County.

Just after 11 a.m., the man was driving westbound on a path designated for golf carts near Meetinghouse Lane at the Clover Leaf Forest RV Resort in Brooksville, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

That's when he suffered a medical emergency and drove off the golf cart path, troopers say. He then crashed into a tree and landed in a nearby pond.

The 74-year-old was reportedly found dead in the pond when authorities arrived at the scene.

FHP has not yet said what kind of medical emergency the man suffered.
