SPRING HILL, Fla. — After months of being closed due to damage from Hurricane Idalia, Pine Island Park has officially reopened to the public, according to a Hernando County news release.

Hernando County Parks and Recreation officially reopened the Alfred McKethan Pine Island Park on March 28.

Located at 10840 Pine Island Dr. in Spring Hill, the park was temporarily closed so that park staff, with help from a local contractor, could work on repairing major damage to its infrastructure caused by the hurricane, the release said.

The park welcomes its visitors to picnic tables, shelters and barbecue grills along with places to sightsee, exercise and grab something to eat.

"We've replenished the sand, fixed the decks for observation and we improved the area all around Willie's snack bar," County Commissioner John Allocco said in a video posted on the Hernando County Government's Facebook page.

Officials said the entire park is now ADA-accessible.

Opened seven days a week, normal operation hours are from 8:30 a.m. to sunset. The parking fee is $5 per car, which can only be paid with a credit card. Handicapped placard and disabled veterans are exempt from the fee at all Hernando County parks.

Please note: RVs, buses or trailers are NOT permitted.
