WIMAUMA, Fla. — A 17-year-old teenager from Gibsonton was killed when an attempt to avoid hitting another car ended with him crashing into an auto dealership lot.

According to the Florida Highway patrol, the boy was driving an Acura TL and was going northbound on US 41.

Vehicle 1, a Chevy Equinox, driven by a 44-year-old Wimauma man, was traveling southbound on US-41.

Near the intersection of Villemaire Road, a Chevy Equinox, driven by a 44-year-old man from Wimauma, made a U-Turn right into the teen driver's path.

Despite trying to avoid it, the boy crashed into the other car. The impact caused the Acura to spin across the roadway, slide onto the east shoulder, and hit a concrete drain pipe causing it to flip over several times before hitting a light pole and several parked cars at the 1st Rate Auto dealership.

The other driver was unhurt, but the teenager died from his injuries at the scene of the crash.
