4 people hurt in shooting near Armature Works in Tampa

Three people shot were innocent bystanders, according to Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw.

TAMPA, Fla. — Three people were shot and a total of four people were hurt Tuesday afternoon near Armature Works in Tampa's Heights District, according to Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw.

No arrests have been made, and police are looking for the person or people responsible.

The shooting happened just after 4 p.m. on the 1900 block of North Ola Avenue.

Bercaw said it started as a disturbance between two groups and was not a targeted attack. He added that the three people shot were innocent bystanders. It's unclear how the fourth person was injured.

10 Tampa Bay's nearby weather camera captured some of the scene as it unfolded.

One person appeared hurt and received medical attention before first responders arrived. Other people were seen running away for safety. Once on scene, Tampa Fire Rescue treated those who were hurt, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

Police confirmed that one person was shot in the arm, while a witness, who only wished to go by Val, described a woman getting shot in the leg.

"We just didn't know what to do until we heard more gunshots and then some security came over and then he told us to run. So, we ran toward the restaurant, toward the other side," Val described.

Val said that the shooting happened "out of nowhere" while she was in a work meeting at Stones Throw, which is a restaurant that's part of Armature Works. Before she knew it, she was trying to help the woman she said was shot in the leg and her baby.

"Everything happened so fast," she said. "I didn't know where the gunshots were coming from. I don't even know how she got hurt. I mean, she was right next to us. So, it was just very quick."

Officers reassured the public after the shooting that it was "NOT an active shooter situation."

Bercaw described what happened as "completely unacceptable."

"We will not tolerate this. We will find who did this, we will charge them and the state attorney's office will prosecute them," Bercaw said in an update at 7 p.m.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have been in the area and captured video on their cell phones to please contact them.

Ulele, a restaurant adjacent to Armature Works, announced it would close for the remainder of the day due to the shooting.

Due to an incident that took place near the restaurant this afternoon, Ulele is closed for the remainder of the day. We’re sorry for this inconvenience.

Just a few blocks away from Armature Works, Sky10 captured video of a car that looked like it had caught on fire and was badly burned. Bercaw confirmed in a press briefing that the two scenes were unrelated.
