Some units uninhabitable after fire at Brandon apartment complex

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

BRANDON, Fla. — Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to a fire at a Brandon apartment complex Sunday afternoon.

HCFR sent 28 units to the scene on Red Maple Place just before 5 p.m. Callers reported the fire had gone through the roof of the two-story building.

When they arrived on the scene, crews saw a large column of black smoke in the distance and struck a second alarm, and eventually added a third.

The flames engulfed the roof of one unit and rapidly spread across the attic of the attached units.

The fire was declared under control one hour after units arrived.

A search was conducted of several apartments and no occupants were found. No injuries have been reported.

HCFR said 12 of the units were destroyed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
