Putting the brakes on hunger: Local auto repair business collects food for Feeding Tampa Bay

The food drive is crucial at this time because food pantries are low on supply after the holidays, the shop's owner said.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A local auto repair business wants to help feed the hungry by offering free brake pads, to put the brakes on hunger!

The owners of Ice Cold Air on Sligh Avenue in Tampa and in Port Richey are offering free brake pads and service to people who bring in 24 non-perishable food items.

They do this food drive every year at this time because local food pantries are running low after the holidays. It's a win-win for the people who need their car serviced like Adrian Price who brought in a donation.

"This should be the new norm where businesses go out in the community that they're in and actually go out and support that community," Price said. "It's a residual. It comes back and forth so that's a great thing."

For business owner Adrian Juilous-Butler, it means helping a community she loves.

"Last year we collected 1,300 pounds and that was just one location. So I want to double that this year because we're doing the donation at the Sligh location, but also the Port Richey location. So if I can get 2,600 pounds, I would feel like I did Feeding Tampa Bay good this year," she said.

You have until March 19 to drop off your donation. If you don't need brake pads at that time, they will give you a coupon for future service as long as you bring in 24 non-perishable food items.

There will also be a community cookout at the Clearwater location on Saturday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
